Adoptions and Fostering
Action cares for pets who were surrendered by their previous owners because they were no longer cute and cuddly puppies or kittens. Sometimes animals come to Action because their owner has passed away and no one is left to take care of them. Others are brought to us as strays in need of food, shelter and medical attention. Often animals in our care have been badly abused and neglected. Volunteers spend many hours, weeks and sometimes months rebuilding the animals trust and confidence. Foster parents take them into their homes to aid in the rehabilitation process. All dogs and cats are spayed or neutered before they are available for adoption. Vaccinations are administered to protect the animals against common diseases. For more information please visit our Featured Adoptions page.
Foster parents offer a safe, temporary home environment to animals entrusted in their care and assist in evaluating habits and behaviours in order to offer more detailed information for prospective new owners. All animals must be kept indoors at all times. Foster parents give love, care and attention to special needs animals such as nursing mothers, animals recovering from surgery, stress animals, etc. Once the rehabilitation process is completed the animal is then returned to Action in order to find a permanent new family. Foster parents are also responsible for feeding, exercising, grooming and general evaluations of the animals. The average length of time that any animal is in Foster care varies from approximately 6 weeks to 6 months. Foster parents are responsible for the cost of food. Veterinary expenses are paid by Action from public donations. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A FOSTER PARENT? If you feel that fostering is for you, please contact Action for Animals for more information. |
